toward the inside or center of something

Your business can never be developed as a brand until you first:

a) suspend the need to be something for everyone, and

b) sharply define with clear edges from your inside or center

The challenge to our business success grows when we compound these learned
behaviors with the entrepreneurial fear that we need to be attractive to e-v-e-r-y-
o-n-e in order to survive. Especially because we don’t know when and from where
the next customer will come. I’ve done that dance too. (You know, the one when you
get off the phone with a new client closing a “new tiny project that feels huge
because it’s the only one you have ‘dance’).

If you identify at all with this, how’s it working for you?

For me it didn’t! Nothing did until I:

1) deeply connected to what I offered, found my uniqueness in it and built on the
internal power of it (the first part of the BrandU? process), and

2) communicated it consistently with precision and quality (the second part of the
BrandU? process known as CLICsm).

The points of effort that you are sending out in every direction – squandering your
focus externally, trying to be something for everyone, doing so much that results so
little – all start from somewhere.

Alliance for Digital Equality (ADE) Calls on Free Press to Explain

0 Comments | U.S. Newswire, Jul 27, 2010

After release of 40-page guide documenting interest group’s plan to manipulate minority support for network neutrality, ADE wants answers

ATLANTA, July 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Today, the Alliance for Digital Equality (ADE) calls on Free Press to explain the true motives behind the 40-page guide reported by The Hill that advocates the manipulation of poor, rural, Southern African Americans and women in order to advance their political agenda. Although their own research shows the majority of Americans believe the Internet is working, Free Press recently commissioned the study Net Neutrality For the Win: How Entertainment and the Science of Influence Can Save Your Internet which includes messages, research data, and strategies for convincing targets that the future of the Internet is in jeopardy in order to gain support for Net Neutrality. ADE demands that Free Press explain their activities.

“The cynical and demeaning manipulation and stereotyping of poor, rural, minorities and women to advance a political agenda is inexcusable. And the blatant exploitation of the struggles that minorities face and have overcome as part of the civil rights movement is simply unacceptable,” said ADE Chairman Julius H. Hollis. “Free Press needs to immediately explain their actions and intentions.”

The forty-page guide, produced by the Harmony Institute, provides a framework to reach their “target demographics” – which include minorities, poor women and America’s Southern, rural poor – and bring them around to supporting Network Neutrality

Regardless of whether you get other websites to link to you or use auction sites like eBay to auction off your services and include links in the text, when you have more links you will have a better result with clickthrough traffic and also the search engines. Better search engine results means you will have more traffic and more sales. It is certainly worthwhile to put some effort into building links.

Include these three tactics into your law firm’s Internet marketing strategy and you’ll be surprised at how quickly they will work for you in generating more traffic and more clients. It is also important to keep in mind that you should regularly update your website, check your links, monitor your keyword positioning, and build your directory listings.

Spill disaster puts BP pound(s)11bn in red

0 Comments | Evening Times; Glasgow (UK), Jul 27, 2010

Oil giant BP plunged into the red for the first time in 18 years today as it racked up a huge 32.2 billion US dollar (pound(s)20.8 bn) bill for the Gulf of Mexico spill crisis.

BP, which also confirmed the departure of chief executive Tony Hayward, posted a loss of 17bn dollars (pound(s)11bn) for the April- June period following the Deepwater Horizon tragedy.

The firm is replacing Mr Hayward with US citizen Bob Dudley and also announced a shake-up of its portfolio including up to 30bn dollars (pound(s)19.3bn) in asset sales over the next 18 months.

Mr Hayward – who has committed a series of PR blunders since the crisis began – leaves with a pay-off of one year’s salary and an pound(s)11m pension pot.

He will step down on October 1 but remain on the BP board until the end of November and has been put forward as a non-executive director of the firm’s TNK-BP Russian joint venture.

BP chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg said the firm was “deeply saddened” to lose a chief executive whose success “was so widely and deservedly admired”.

But he added that the Deepwater Horizon explosion – which left 11 workers dead – had been a “watershed incident”.

“It will be a different company going forward, requiring fresh leadership supported by robust governance,” Mr Svanberg said.

Meanwhile, BP petrol stations were shut down by activists today in a bid to urge the oil company to adopt greener energy policies.

Greenpeace claimed it shut off fuel supplies at around 50 service stations in central London.

A spokesman said activists stopped the flow of fuel by flipping safety switches located on the forecourts and then removing them to prevent the petrol stations reopening.

Out-of-work copywriter bares all on savvy self-marketing site.(Viewpoint essay)

This is maybe not the best time ever to be a copywriter. If you have a job, you will probably lose it within the next couple of years, 10 years max but very possibly before Labor Day. If you do not at present have a job, it’s time to take a long hard look at a new career in a sector of the economy not being ravaged by digital technology:

* diagnostic-imaging technician

* casual-dining assistant manager

* burglar

Please understand that when the president talks about “retraining,” he’s not talking about steel-mill workers (those guys have long since donned green scrubs and started processing MRI scans for $12.25 an hour). He’s talking about you

So, the question, for those who are considering taking up the guitar and getting their first one is, what guitar do you get? If you’re interested in jazz do you get the same kind of guitar as somebody who wants to play speed metal? Well, it might be an interesting experiment, but most likely the answer would be, no. So, what guitar should each person get, depending on what kind of music they want to play? Hopefully this article will try to answer that question.

Music is very diverse to say the least. Even within each style there are variations. For example, in rock there is hard rock, soft rock, metal, acid and a host of other sub categories. The sounds and more specifically, the dynamics of each are quite different. While The Eagles and the Allman Brothers might both be considered country or southern rock, depending on which side of the fence you’re on, their sounds are quite different. So without nitpicking we’re going to take the broad approach over the specific.

If you’re going to play music that is relatively soft such as folk music, you probably don’t want to get yourself a Rickenbacker electric guitar.

Charlie Sheen likely to be jailed for 30 days under deal with prosecutor

LOS ANGELES, June 1 (Xinhua) — Sitcom star Charlie Sheen will plead no contest to misdemeanor assault stemming from his Christmas Day arrest for attacking long estranged wife Brooke Mueller, local media outlets reported Tuesday.

An Aspen, Colorado prosecutor confirms Sheen will get 30 days in county jail under a plea deal in his domestic violence case. With time served and good behavior, the actor could spend just two weeks behind bars, KTLA 5 reported on its website quoting sources with the Colorado prosecutor’s office.

Sheen is scheduled to be in court next week for a disposition hearing,entering a plea and immediately begin serving time. He has been serving court-ordered 36 hours of anger management classes.

The 44-year-old comedian was arrested on suspicion he pinned Brooke Mueller to a bed and held a knife to her throat. Sheen was charged in February with felony menacing, misdemeanor third-degree assault and misdemeanor criminal mischief. The felony count, which carries a maximum three-year sentence, will now be dropped.

Shreen and Mueller both entered substance abuse rehab programs later that month
